Sinkiang is a medium sized communist Chinese Warlord Clique in Central Asia/Western China. It is bordered by the Soviet Union and
Mongolia to the north, the
British Raj,
Afghanistan and
Tibet to the south, and warlord clique
Xibei San Ma to the east. Sinkiang is located in a barren, mountainous desert region with limited natural resources. It is also landlocked and has no navy. It is the only other communist nation in East Asia other than
Communist China or
Mongolia.
Historical background[edit | edit source]
Sinkiang is a province located in the far western region of China, inhabited mostly by the Uyghur, a local Turkic Muslim ethnic group. After the Xinhai revolution, control of Sinkiang was seized by the warlord Yang Zengxin. His rule lasted until 1928, when he was assassinated following the victory of the Kuomintang in the Northern Expedition. The province then fell into a series of wars between multiple sides vying to control the province: Uyghur separatists under the East Turkestan Republic, and the warlords Ma Zhongying, who was aligned with the Kuomintang and
Ma Clique, and Sheng Shicai, who was supported by White Russian mercenaries and the
Soviet Union. Sheng won control of the province in 1933, ruling Sinkiang for the next decade with heavy support from the Soviets. The Soviet Union maintained a military base in Xinjiang and had several military and economic advisors deployed in the region. Sheng Shicai would even join the Communist Party of the Soviet Union as a registered member. However, with the Sino-Japanese war raging, he would later turn on the Soviet Union and
Communist China, executing Mao Zedong's younger brother, Mao Zemin, and reestablishing relations with the Chinese Nationalist government. In 1944, fearing that Sheng Shicai would turn back to the Soviets, Chiang Kai-Shek removed Sheng from Sinkiang by giving him the ceremonial post of Minister of Agriculture and Forests, which moved him far away to the Chinese capital of Chongqing.
When the Chinese Civil War resumed in 1946, the Soviet-backed Second East Turkestan Republic was formed in Sinkiang and attempted to become independent of the Nationalist government, siding with the communists and peacefully integrating into the newly formed People's Republic of China. Sheng Shicai went into exile in Taiwan with the rest of the Kuomintang.
National focus[edit | edit source]
- Main article: Warlords national focus tree
Sinkiang shares a national focus tree with
Xibei San Ma,
Guangxi Clique,
Yunnan and
Shanxi. It may inherit the
Nationalist or
Communist Chinese focus trees.
The Warlord national focus tree can be divided into 2 branches and 3 sub-branches:
- Secure Internal Politics Branch
- This branch begins the political focuses for the Warlords.
- Cooperation With the Nationalists sub-branch
- This branch allows the Warlords to side with
Nationalist China. This will replace the current focus tree with the Chinese national focus tree.
- Cooperation With the Communists sub-branch
- This branch allows the Warlords to side with
Communist China and be able to replace and annex them with
Soviet Support. When replacing
Communist China, The current focus tree will change into the Communist Chinese national focus tree and all Their national spirits will be yours.
- Opposition sub-branch
- This branch allows the Warlords to instigate Border Clashes with the other Chinas, side with the Japanese and then proclaim a rival government different to
Nationalist and
Communist China
- Industrial Investment Branch
- This is the Industrial branch of the focus tree.

As a warlord, Sinkiang may decide to ally itself with the Nationalists in order to fend off the Japanese. Because it starts off as a Communist nation, It may join the Comintern and replace
Communist China. It may also expand within the region via the use of border conflicts. Because it can only use border conflicts with
Xibei San Ma in the start of the game, It must expand through there first.

- Army
- The Sinkiang army is composed of 3, barely equiped, divisions consisting of 6 infantry battalions. They are in no shape to fight.
- Navy
- Sinkiang does not posses a starting navy, due to its landlocked location. The closest accesible coastal provinces are those of China.
- Air force
- Sinkiang does not posses a starting air force. The plane technologies are not researched either.
Strategies and guides[edit | edit source]

A Turkic-Chinese Union[edit | edit source]
Sinkiang has the unique ability to proclaim Turkestan after conquering the "Stans" that are in the USSR as well as core all of China. This, along with a starting party of communism, makes Sinkiang (Xinjiang) distinct from other warlords. But with the least population and only one free building slot for another factory in the entirety of Sinkiang, it will be quite an uphill battle.
Independent action; Opposition and Border Conflicts
First finish "Secure Internal Politics" and "Opposition". Prepare 6 divisions (the number of units drawn into border conflicts) that are optimized for high soft attack to win border conflicts quickly; or at least what one may scrounge together before Japan performs Marco Polo. Do not go to war with Japan. Immediately justify war against Xibei San Ma while quickly speeding through the Border Conflict focuses to be able to do border conflicts with the Nationalists. Once the justification is complete, go to war. Upon winning, begin border conflicts with the Nationalists to ensure a direct line to the Yunnan Clique then to Guangxi by extension. Occupy them for resources while also attempting to encircle Nationalist China to prevent the Japanese from potentially capitulating them, as the Japanese should not have military access through you. Be warned: the state where a border conflict happens is somewhat random, and several unlucky happenings may leave the player with just a small share of the China pie in the end, and you'll have to fight longer for the rest.
The USSR sugar daddy
While seemingly the weakest warlord, Sinkiang has one key advantage of not being non-aligned as with the other warlords. This allows justification of war regardless of world tension and makes it possible to join Comintern at start. Since the USSR has no interest whatsoever to any Chinese territory, you can justify on other warlords and have the USSR win the wars for you, and claim the land for free. One may also beg for the equipment desperately needed, though the Soviet Union tends to have a large equipment deficit, so you may have to resort for guns from elsewhere, such as Germany after the Anchluss.
Starting as Communist also has the advantage of being able to replace Communist China by going through the Opposition branch instead of the parallel Warlord Communist branch of the focus tree. This way, you are not forced to give the USSR a tribute, nor worry about giving them a war goal on you should you decide to default on it.
Forming the Turkic Union[edit | edit source]
With as much of China under the player's control for manpower, resources and industry, it becomes time to took at the Soviet Union if one wishes to maximise cores. By the time one finishes unifying China, if the game is set on Historical focuses, the German Reich may be preparing or are undertaking Operation Barbarossa, in which case the player should be prepared to rush in and gobble up as much of Central Asia as possible. An ideal time to strike may be about two years in or if the Germans approach Moscow or the Caucuses mountains.
Should the game deviate from the historical timepoints, it may be advisable to let the USSR or its successor state (should it have split in the civil war) slog its way through the Gobi Desert and fight a defensive attritional warfare with copious artillery and anti-air before making a final counterattack with advanced tanks.
