Box colour[edit]

I do think the blue is a tad too dark for the logo. As screenshots roll out, I'm thinking we could try and come up with a more unifying and fitting background colour/texture for these things? --• General Baker Flag of United Kingdom (Talk) • 00:25, 24 January 2014 (CET)

Dark orange seems to be the main color of the box art. Would that work? Medibee (Talk | Contribs) 18:53, 24 January 2014 (CET)
I don't think orange would work particularly well. Nice thing about the blue though is that it gives a consistency between the wikis. ~ Meneth (talk) 18:54, 24 January 2014 (CET)

Version Number[edit]

We should use a consistent version number across all pages. Some places the game are named Hearts of Iron 4 while on others it is Named Hearts of Iron IV. PDS officially call the game Hearts of Iron IV. Example ~ Sn3ipen (talk) 17:12, 25 January 2014 (CET)

I prefer using the number 4, as Google Trends has shown quite clearly that that's what people search for. See EU4 as an example. ~ Meneth (talk) 17:15, 25 January 2014 (CET)

Release date[edit]

The release date has been changed to late Q2 2015. Can you please mention this on the main page, Meneth. – Lillebror (talk) 18:24, 20 January 2015 (CET)

Done. ~ Meneth (talk) 18:25, 20 January 2015 (CET)

Icons[edit]

Is there any chance we can talk to Paradox about getting access to small versions of the in-game icons that have been revealed in the dev diaries for use on this wiki, a la what's been done on the EU4 one? --Deoradhan (talk) 19:18, 9 February 2015 (CET)

I'll ask about it. ~ Meneth (talk) 20:03, 9 February 2015 (CET)
Icons have now been added. Haven't figured out a fitting icon for Ideas, and not 100% happy with the icons for Government and Countries, but it works well enough for now. ~ Meneth (talk) 13:57, 12 February 2015 (CET)

Countries[edit]

Should various production of Resources be added (for example in the infobox top right, and an entry under Production)? Should also ruling party (1936) be added to the same Infobox? Example is Portugal, who I believe produce Tungsten, and whose leader was Oscar Carmona--Simen113 (talk) 00:03, 18 January 2016 (CET)

After release, the info box will have ideology, which essentially covers ruling party.
I don't think there'd be much point to including their resource production. ~ Meneth (talk) 00:10, 18 January 2016 (CET)
Alright. I've tried to add some articles and create a framework. If anything does not fit, feel free to merge and move. Trying to contribute, and create a fully fleshed out Wiki :)--Simen113 (talk) 00:14, 18 January 2016 (CET)
There should be a section for the cities that give that country flavor events, e.G. taking London or Paris as Germany — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.171.56.165 (Talk) 00:39, 19 July 2016‎ (CEST)

"About this game"[edit]

Minor change to wording need; "useful for both new and experienced players and for modders." should read "useful for both new and experienced players as well as for modders." Minor change I know, but the triple and doesn't read well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zankoas (Talk) 22:35, 11 May 2016‎ (CEST)

Done. ~ Meneth (talk) 22:36, 11 May 2016 (CEST)

Beginners Guide?[edit]

I page called Beginners Guide was just added, maybe it should be linked on the home page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zankoas (Talk) 17:41, 24 May 2016 (CEST)

Done. ~ Meneth (talk) 22:03, 24 May 2016 (CEST)

National Focus vs National focus[edit]

There is a much worse version of the National Focus page listed on the homepage links as National focus (lowercase f is the distinction between the pages) Can someone switch the link over the newer and far better one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adil3tr (Talk) 22:35, 2 June 2016 (CEST)

Moved the larger page's content onto the correct article name. ~ Meneth (talk) 22:37, 2 June 2016 (CEST)

Countries Link[edit]

Shouldn't there be a link to the countries page from here? Feels strange that it's on the front page of other wikis and not this one. Plus, not many other ways to access it without just searching it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThaneOfTheRift (Talk) 23:52, 2 June 2016‎ (CEST)

Adding a ton of countries[edit]

I'll be adding a bunch of information for all the countries not covered yet. I've gotten Albania, Belgium, Ethiopia and Austria done at the time of this post. - Hunter9502

Spam[edit]

Some guy spam-edited a bunch of pages, I've tried reverting them but it's given me a limit. Anyone want to help out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.2.86 (talk) 05:16, 3 September 2016 (CEST)

Many thanks! – Lillebror (talk) 07:46, 3 September 2016 (CEST)

Confused on how to change country names.[edit]

So I am doing a project on the crusades and was going to use the hoi4 map to display how it all occurred. In order to do this though, I need to change several countries names. I have looked around on google and they all mention notepad or notepad++ and mention changing/adding some code to it, but they never say that that code might be, or where it is that I need to change it. So I was wondering if anyone here knew, and could help me. Thanks lots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CountrySideDonkey (Talk) 17:38, 20 October 2017‎ (CEST)

Register your game on the forums to access the modding sub-forum. The modders are quite friendly and you'll have a better chance of getting the required help there. ~ SolSys (talk) 21:49, 21 October 2017 (CEST)

Dev Diary links to the wrong thread[edit]

I noticed the latest dev diary (#20, Japan Rework) links to dev diary 19 instead. This is only a problem on the front page though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mordekai99 (talk) 21:49, 6 January 2018‎ (CET)

Fixed, thanks for the spot. Dauth (talk) 00:12, 7 January 2018 (CET)

Excavator[edit]

The gray icon shown on the Construction-button in the Main Menu Bar is called a "crane" (see Beginner´s Guide under "Construction"). In fact on the button an excavator is depicted.

If in doubt, please check for pictures of 1930s excavator models in google.

Please replace "crane" with "excavator". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.199.242.188 (talk) 13:44, 19 February 2018‎ (CET)

Done. Thanks for your hint. – Lillebror (talk) 09:29, 21 February 2018 (CET)

1.5.2[edit]

Shouldn't we add 1.5.2? --73.29.107.20 20:55, 24 March 2018 (CET)

When the release is official and complete and not in beta. Dauth (talk) 20:59, 24 March 2018 (CET)

Dev Diary wrong again[edit]

Latest diary link points to the previous one, as opposed to 1084627 which is the current one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joald (talk) 19:06, 30 March 2018‎ (CEST)

Well spotted. Fixed. Dauth (talk) 19:07, 30 March 2018 (CEST)
Sorry, it seems I have developed a tendency to miss the last remaining part to change. ~ SolSys (talk) 11:06, 31 March 2018 (CEST)

The releasable crisis[edit]

The new Dev diary has announced 59 new releasables. Because of this releasables are no longer irrelevant. However this Wiki still lacks info about the releasables we have right now. If nothing is done the wiki will be overwhelmed when Man the Guns is out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.32.205.32 (talk) 06:30, 12 July 2018‎ (CEST)

Releasable nations are not (and were not) viewed as "irrelevant" as you put it, rather the same policy which applies to all other nations applies to them as well -- they need to have some content to them to justify maintaining their own page. Said content could be in-game unique content [events, missions, decisions, etc.] or user-created content -- by this we mean up-to-date guides which follow the style guide (usually at least 2 weeks are given to polish lacking guides so it does not have to be perfect from the start). Regardless, the releasables will continue to be listed on the countries article with the rest of the nations. ~ SolSys (talk) 10:40, 13 July 2018 (CEST)

Overhaul of Warfare link section[edit]

The warfare section under "Important pages" has various problems in my opinion:

  • it contains things that are not warfare:
    • terrain
    • weather
    • army planner
  • it invents names that are not used in the game
    • combat tactics (tactic)
    • "Army planner" (Deployment queue)
    • "land units" (division)
    • "naval units" (ship)
    • "air units" (aircraft)
    • "command group" (army)
  • inconsistent grouping

My proposal (minus the bullet points):

Bitmode (talk) 22:58, 23 March 2019 (CET)

I'll look into it. ~ SolSys (talk) 21:52, 25 March 2019 (CET)

Sandbox[edit]

I frankly think each user should have a sandbox section like in the main Wikipedia, so people can practice with creating event descriptions and stuff like that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sammy (talk) 06:02, 28 April 2019‎ (CET)

Anyone with a userpage can activate their sandbox by appending the userpage name with /Sandbox, yours is found at Sammy/Sandbox. Please also sign your edits with four tildes. Thanks Dauth (talk) 09:59, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Proposed Change of Country Page Format[edit]

As more DLC and updates are added, more and more countries have unique mechanics and decisions. I'm proposing that these unique mechanics get added somewhere to the country page, maybe as part of the politics subsection? --Wobpig (talk) 02:43, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

PS: Is staff and designers supposed to be it's own section or part of the economy section? I noticed it's different on certain pages (China and the UK)

Title[edit]

The main page looks good. But the fact that it says that you can edit the wiki should be removed. Since unless something is perfectly written it violates some rule or the mods just remove it. The only edits normal people can do are fixing typos. Advertising anyone can edit is just a lie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.35.120.120 (talk) 17:25, 19 December 2019‎‎‎ (UTC)

If you mean the removal of of the strategy guide in the Venezuela page -- can you tell me in all honesty that you made a real effort in the month the warning was up to fix the main problem there which was being Prescriptive?
If you were going to answer "yes" let me quote the change description you left "tried to make it fit the style guidlines, but those are pretty bad and seem to serve just as a way for mods to delete things they don't like." An edit doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to follow some basic ground rules. We are in the process of discussing a more lenient guidelines for strategy sections, but regardless of how it will end up, the "not being prescriptive" requirement will still remain. An strategy edit can have some grammar issues, it can be short, it can be bland, but in a game with a lot of possibilities it cannot be a list of "do 1,2,3,x". ~ SolSys (talk) 20:25, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

La Resistance[edit]

When La Resistance is released, are you going to remove 1.8 and 1.8.1 like you removed 1.7 and 1.7.1 when 1.8 released, if not can you for consistency reasons? Just wondering. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.222.248.56 (talk) 20:15, 28 January 2020‎

That is the policy. Please sign your comments with ~~~~. ~ SolSys (talk) 18:36, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

Man the Guns[edit]

You accidentally listed Man the Guns twice205.222.3.56 12:45, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. ~ SolSys (talk) 13:33, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Wiki contest dates[edit]

The wiki contest entries under "Latest News" appears to say the contest ended a year before it actually started. Given that time travel does not currently exist[citation needed], I assume this is a typo 195.147.75.156 20:17, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Maybe. Maybe not ;) ~ SolSys (talk) 20:23, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Why not create a wiki by Chinese?[edit]

English version wiki is hard to read for some players. We hope PDX can create a Chinese HOI4 Wiki. 36.101.247.15 14:59, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Moderator edit: The PDX wikis are moderated by a team of volunteers, the HOI4 wiki is further separated as it is a community managed wiki. We do not have the linguistic skill required to effectively moderate a wiki in Chinese, therefore it will not happen. Dauth (talk) 18:32, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
