Name Change[edit]

I think this page should be renamed to "Designers" since they are referred to as such. Also, calling them "companies" confuses them with companies in the division designer. --Trifler (talk) 14:38, 23 December 2016 (CET)

My proposal is 'List of design companies'. The game also uses this term. – Lillebror (talk) 18:22, 23 December 2016 (CET)
Agreed. - Gamengervi (talk) @ 18:26, 23 December 2016 (CET)

Idea[edit]

Before much more work is put into this table, I was thinking it would be easier for people to use if each country was a collapsible table, with all of the tables collapsed by default. Thoughts? --Trifler (talk) 16:38, 29 December 2016 (CET)

I probably have to disagree with you, since most countries lack many unique design companies. In this instance, I personally feel a long table is alright, but it isn't really my call. Either way, changing it later wouldn't be any more difficult than changing it now. - Gamengervi (talk) @ 16:44, 29 December 2016 (CET)
Well, here's an example. It would basically be something like this. I really can't see why you would be against it. The Country column could probably be removed. Optionally the visible bar that says "Expand" could contain the info for the first row of data. Also optionally all of the major countries could be listed first, then the minors, and then the ones with only a single row could be lumped into a single table if desired. --Trifler (talk) 17:30, 29 December 2016 (CET)

[Unindented] As a general rule of thumb, the use of collapsible content should be [mostly] avoided on an article's main page. This is done because it interferes with search within a page [Ctrl+F]. The content can be collapsed if it is transcluded to secondary pages - i.e. events outside of event pages are collapsed by default. Note: IIRC, the list was generated with a script. ~ SolSys (talk) 17:46, 29 December 2016 (CET)

Such a policy doesn't make any sense to me. I've seen many wikis use it very effectively. What would you suggest, then, other than leaving it as is? --Trifler (talk) 01:20, 30 December 2016 (CET)
I don't see how wanting the search within a page function [Ctrl+F] to work properly "doesn't make any sense". An example to an existing workaround is given in my previous comment. ~ SolSys (talk) 10:09, 30 December 2016 (CET)
"... it interferes with search within a page [Ctrl+F]" - Sorry, I missed that. As for the transcluding to a secondary page, I don't consider that a workaround for this page, unless all links to this page are removed and it is just used as a data source page. Plus, AFAIK this page not currently transcluded anywhere else. I think I may have a solution though. I'll work on it. --Trifler (talk) 18:20, 30 December 2016 (CET)
