A general reminder
  1. Do not create pages with close to none-existent content ["frameworks"]. They create the impression that a page is a WiP and "will be filled soon enough" deterring users from working on that page.
  2. Do not create pages with speculative or false content in the hopes that some other user might come along and fix it. Data on the wiki pages is mostly extracted from the game files and most users are either unaware of this or don't know their whereabouts.
  3. Having pages with false content is more harmful than having no page at all. Pages such as these create frustration among the userbase and the notion that the wiki is not up to the task.
  4. One can find many pages not adhering to wiki style are allowed as long as they contain information benefiting users.
  5. The wiki team [for the most part] consists of volunteers so no more suggestions such as: get to work, and fix what you've done. You can even do it to your standards this time.

Support Companies In-Depth[edit]

I don't understand your comment on the Division page. Are you saying you want me to put it on the Land Units page? It doesn't belong there. The information is for division planning. The Support link on the Land Units page also goes to the In-Depth information I had on there. Also, my information has been there for ages. It's not like I added it recently. --Trifler (talk) 02:47, 19 December 2016 (CET)

There was a duplication of the same content on the Support Battalions technology page [as can be seen by the link of the top of the section]. If need be, duplication of content across pages should be done via transclusion - that way the content can be updated across all pages at once. ~ SolSys (talk) 10:28, 19 December 2016 (CET)
I see. I would like to set up a transclusion then. How do I do that? --Trifler (talk) 06:06, 20 December 2016 (CET)
Done. ~ SolSys (talk) 10:14, 20 December 2016 (CET)
Thank you. --Trifler (talk) 10:20, 20 December 2016 (CET)

Template help[edit]

Could you put the category on this template? Template:Pad. For some reason the way I'm doing it messes up how it works. - Gamengervi (talk) @ 20:37, 21 December 2016 (CET)

Done, though I'm not sure it would be would that useful - there are other ways to accomplish it. ~ SolSys (talk) 21:15, 21 December 2016 (CET)
Thanks. It's just quicker for me. I hope that's alright. - Gamengervi (talk) @ 21:17, 21 December 2016 (CET)

Color of option template heading[edit]

Like you already seen on my sandbox, the white option text is not readable if the text is wrapped. My preference is to use the color of the frame, or a light gray. I don't want to use more colors. – Lillebror (talk) 18:28, 18 February 2017 (CET)

Agreed. Between the two I prefer light gray since its closer to the current color, but I'll defer to your choice. ~ SolSys (talk) 18:47, 18 February 2017 (CET)

Imgmap co-ordinates plug-in (if any)[edit]

Hey there, you hanging on to your own created excel sheet of some kind for calculating the x, y points?
For the time being, I am obtaining the points through paint windows app by hovering over my mouse. Not quite a precise job..
*This extends to the other moderators too, if you can help out* --Heil! (talk) 14:34, 7 May 2017 (CEST)

I haven't worked much with the extension [aside from initial testing]. From what I gathered there are online tools that can generate coordinates to use with it. An excel sheet sounds better for the long run though. ~ SolSys (talk) 17:17, 7 May 2017 (CEST)
The focuses are placed in a grid. But the white space of the screenshots is not always identical. Thus you haven't to determine every coordinate in an image editor. It hasn't to be exact. – Lillebror (talk) 17:48, 7 May 2017 (CEST)

Edits for Focus[edit]

You backed out my changes, and did not even bother to contact me on it. Is this supposed to be a Wiki? Does not appear to be so. I have not really been very happy with this, and if you discourage changes like this it will discourage people from adding. I have been real frustrated with the lack of information in this wiki and I thought I would help. I would have expected a lot better material to start with since the company has access to all the information. I was about to add the following since I had to go to a lot of effort to figure it out, but maybe you could do something. You know it takes time to get to the point and then copy everything:

The end of Czechoslovakia is at hand and our forces are marching into Prague at this very moment. With the Surrender of the Czechoslovakian military, we have liberated vast quantities of armaments. Their tanks, in particular, should serve our forces well. Bohman will be annexed into Germany as a protectorate, but what should become of Slovakia? We can set them up as an autonomous state under Jozef Tiso. Set up Slovakia as a puppet state Partition Czechoslovakia with Hungary All of Czechoslovakia belongs to the Reich NOTE: the last one should be selected if want to continue with “Danzig for Slovakia”, otherwise cannot select this option. Czech factories: 7 + 5 + 3 + 3, Slovakian factories: 2 + 1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Qck one (talk) 00:09, 9 June 2017‎ (CEST)

Sorry for not contacting you sooner. For some reason you cannot add a reason when undoing a series of edits. This is indeed a wiki, but editorial decisions are taken from time to time to keep things somewhat in focus. The same was true for your edits; they were either repeating information already present in the preceding columns or simply strategy notes out of their place [strategy section in nation pages]. Edit: Couldn't find the above at first; Event pages are also not the place for these notes. ~ SolSys (talk) 11:17, 9 June 2017 (CEST)

Achivements changes[edit]

  1. Why you have changed the order of achievements? I segregated it by difficulty and version, it was easier to read that way.
  2. "Better Than Szent István" requires a DoD DLC as naval commander Miklos Horthy is unlocked by special Hungarian National Focus.
  3. "Miklos Horthy and the Habsburg Prince" requires a DoD DLC - Austria-Hungary TAG is unlocked by special Hungarian National Focus.

Please revert changes to second and third point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Modes (Talk) 15:23, 25 June 2017‎ (CEST)

The achievements are sorted [by default] by difficulty/ABC across the wikis. It is assumed all users are on the latest version. I'm aware of them being unlocked by an NF, but I'm not aware of it being restricted only to those NF. If it is shown to be case then it can be marked as such. Do remember to sign your comments with ~~~~. ~ SolSys (talk) 16:56, 25 June 2017 (CEST)
Oh, ok. I've checked the files and naval commander named Miklós Horthy and HUN_EMPIRE TAG are only set by Focus. There is no other way. ~ Modes (talk) 18:41, 25 June 2017 (CEST)

Combat tactics - counter tactics[edit]

Care to clarify your revert of Combat tactics stating "The table seems pretty clear"? The table does not mention anywhere what kind of bonus chance Recon stat gives, neither is it described anywhere in the game, on the wiki, or on the forums. Offhand (talk) 23:26, 1 August 2017 (CEST)

Your changes were not about recon in particular, but on tactics in general. As such, they were edited [not reverted] to better show that. You are welcome to review your changes to see that it was indeed so. That being said, you're right that the benefit of recon to tactics is strangely not mentioned even though it is listed in the files. I'll add a note on the tactics page to reflect that. ~ SolSys (talk) 09:32, 2 August 2017 (CEST)
Thanks this is better ~ Offhand (talk) 12:17, 2 August 2017 (CEST)

Category names[edit]

Since it looks like Gunnar Von Pontius isn't going to fix the category titles any time soon, is there a way to automatically rename the categories on each page or do I have to go in manually and adjust each one? - Gamengervi (talk) @ 12:51, 16 March 2018 (CET)

It should be possible with AWB [AutoWikiBrowser], but I'm not sure if it requires any special permissions. Shouldn't be the case, if memory serves me right. ~ SolSys (talk) 17:43, 16 March 2018 (CET)
Changed the category names via AWB without futher checks. – Lillebror (talk) 09:55, 17 March 2018 (CET)
I saw. I tried using AWB early, but it wouldn't connect me to the wiki. Thanks for doing it instead. - Gamengervi (talk) @ 17:55, 17 March 2018 (CET)
Great work. Thanks. ~ SolSys (talk) 20:47, 17 March 2018 (CET)

National Focus tree pictures[edit]

What to do if a particular focus tree has branches that are restricted if a certain dlc is not active? for example, Germany and Japan has paths that are removed if Waking the Tiger is not enabled and some focuses are disabled if Death or Dishonor isn't as well. Do I upload the pictures as well?

Also, for Germany, If one goes to the oppose Hitler path, some focus' names change. What name should be used for the focus page? AkatsukiEmpire (talk) 03:53, 4 April 2018 (CEST)

The wiki is based on the notion that all DLCs are present and activated. If there are whole branches then it needs to be noted under their section with the {{expansion}} template. For an isolated focus, the DLC can be mentioned in the requirements. As for focus changes/swaps, if only the names change then use the default name. Otherwise, if the effects/requirements change as well -- basically rendering it as different focus -- then list the focus as a new one. If you want an example for this, you can check the traditions article on Stellaris where there are such cases for tradition swaps already. Hope this helps. ~ SolSys (talk) 19:46, 4 April 2018 (CEST)
In the Japanese focus, Japan gets the focus "develop Aluminum sources" under "expand the Showa Steelworks". This focus is not shown on the focus tree unless Waking the Tiger is not installed and Manchukuo has a generic focus tree. what should be done? I understand that I can put the prerequisite of "Manchukuo has generic focus tree" but my question relates to the picture. Should the focus be placed in the focus tree picture or should it not be included? AkatsukiEmpire (talk) 12:19, 6 April 2018 (CEST)
Leave the focus tree as is [final version], otherwise it would require picture manipulation on other instances as well. The focus icon itself should be on the wiki. ~ SolSys (talk) 12:34, 7 April 2018 (CEST)

Decisions template[edit]

The decision template may need to change to accommodate HOI4. The decisions files for HOI4 seems to have different wording/ usages to the decisions in EU4. Instead of allow, HOI4 uses "available" instead for prerequisites shown in game. Instead of "potential", it uses "Allowed" for which nations or dlc can use it and "visible" for when the decision is visible in game. Many decisions also use "cost" for the how much Political power should be used.

Each decision also has a separate icon used in game. For example: Decision category generic formable nations.png for decision categories and Decision generic form nation.png for the individual decisions is used for forming nations while a few decisions like forming nations use pictures like Decision cat generic united netherlands.pngAkatsukiEmpire (talk) 06:38, 9 April 2018 (CEST)

Also, some countries are able to do a decision although they are not visible. For example, in the form the nordic league decision, Iceland is under the "allowed" subheading even though they are not in the "visible" subheading. I also have a majority of the Formable nations decisions done and images to show which states are needed and which would become cores. I am wondering if it's okay to post them now when they are based on the EU4 decision template or wait until the template changes to fit HOI4. AkatsukiEmpire (talk) 04:15, 11 April 2018 (CEST)

The syntax may be a tad different, but the meaning should be the same. Unfortunately, I am busier than I used to be so an adaptation may take a bit of time. In the mean time you can experiment with the page in your sandbox and see how it should be changed. ~ SolSys (talk) 20:01, 11 April 2018 (CEST)

similar but different national ideas icons[edit]

The "Warrior Traditions" Icon in vanilla has a gold border while the "Militarism Shogun" icon in Waking the Tiger has a silver border. It's only slightly different but the one in WTT is deleted.AkatsukiEmpire (talk) 06:16, 30 April 2018 (CEST)

Restored. Well observed. – Lillebror (talk) 08:30, 30 April 2018 (CEST)

What's the wiki's policy on releasable nations?[edit]

Do they get their own page or should they just link to the countries page?AkatsukiEmpire (talk) 05:03, 28 May 2018 (CEST)

I'll answer this. The priority is for nations that exist in 1936 since the vast majority of players play the fullest length of the game. If someone wants to build a page for a releasable nation they can but if its not kept up to date it will eventually be removed. Hope this explains it for you, thanks Dauth (talk) 10:06, 28 May 2018 (CEST)

Issue regarding image uploads[edit]

Hello Admin,

Regarding updating files under Category:Map_images . I'm newly registered and "cannot overwrite this file." I couldn't find information regarding account verification needed for image upload.

While Iamnew7 is able to upload, the database on that page is not updated. (images/d/db/Blank_state_map.png is still images/archive/d/db/20190504122259%21Blank_state_map.png)

May I ask how can I get approved to upload images, and if there's actions we need to take to actually update it? A million thanks.

New editors are required to make other edits before being able to upload files. The other issue is due to a bug currently being worked on. Sorry for the inconveince. ~ SolSys (talk) 12:31, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
