Communist China (PRC) is a minor nation in eastern Asia. It starts with 7.91 million population in the 1936 start date.

Historical background

In 1911-12, the Qing Dynasty collapsed, and the Republic of China was formed. However, various warlords also arose, carving out territories from the former empire. In 1921, the Western powers having ignored pleas for aid confronting the warlords, the Flag of Soviet Union Soviet Union answered by supporting both the Communist Party of China and the much larger Chinese nationalist Kuomintang government of the Republic of Flag of China China. Under Soviet urging, the two sides formed the First United Front in 1923. In 1927, tensions between communists and nationalists flared, with left-wing KMT members either joining Mao Zedong's CPC or being purged by Chiang Kai-shek's right wing KMT. Soon, armed communist revolts erupted and the Ten Year Civil War began.

Nationalist campaigns into communist territory in southern China were interrupted from 1929 through 1931, when Japanese expansion in Manchuria (the Mukden Incident and subsequent territorial concessions) halted nationalist offenses for a time. Mao's forces declared independence as an otherwise unrecognized Chinese Soviet Republic existing in various pockets throughout China. 1932 to 1933 saw limited success for the KMT, though new failure to halt Flag of Japan Japan forced demilitarization of the area around Beijing. But in 1934, careful encircling maneuvers crushed communist pockets, leading Mao's forces to exile on the Long March. However, communists reorganized in the arid province of Yenan in far northern China during 1935 and 1936. There, Mao's conviction in communism's inevitability strengthened. The civil war was temporarily halted in 1937 when Flag of Japan Japan invaded Flag of China China and the CPC and KMT formed the Second United Front to battle the Japanese.

Technology

The PRC only starts with one 1918 land tech. The nation starts with the Mass assault doctrine. Communist China starts with only two research slots.

Diplomacy

The People's Republic of China starts the game with a truce with China. In the north Japan is justifying a war goal with the Chinese Border Incident, the PRC will most likely end up at war with the Japanese. A border war with Nationalist China will happen a few months into the game.

Alliances

In the 1936 start date, the PRC has no alliances. In 1939 however, the PRC is in the Chinese United Front faction with Flag of China China that is at war with Flag of Japan Japan.

Strategies and Guides

The Western Soviet

Start with training Juntuan troops and researching Mass Assault doctorine. Boost communism in Flag of Japan Japan for later coup, and in Flag of China China for free provinces. As with usual, influence can be used in Flag of Spain Spain to change the outcome of the civil war, but Republican Spain as usual generally only limit its help to sending volunteers. Trade with Soviet Union and British Raj. Justify war (retake core) on Shanxi as soon as possible. Conqure, annex, and join Comintern.

Research artillery and prepare a typical 6~8 Infantry + 1 Support Artillery division template. Improve relation with Japan to avoid war.

Justify retaking core against Sinkiang, then Xibei San Ma. Declare war and annex Xibei San Ma as soon as divisions are fully prepared. Bringing some artillery can be good for rushing Lanzhou (1) and Golmod (10), XSM's only VPs. Start justifying to annex Tibet as you attack Xibei San Ma. Make sure to conquer Sinkiang before it joins Comintern. Conquer Tibet. For a border with the Raj, justify war against and conquer Nepal (5 divisions needed) and Butan (1 division). Tibet will provide around 15K outdated infantry equipment on annexation, and Xibei San Ma will provide plenty of manpower; use them well.

The Chinese people woke up precisely because the Japanese have taken a half of it. How could we have taken power had Japan not invaded?
— Mao Zedong exectuing our strategy, according to unreliable lores

As soon as the Marco Polo Bridge incident happens, stage a communist coup on Japan, spreading from South Korea. Refuse to join the United Front and let Japan take on China. Justify war on China as Japan crosses the Yangtze River. Finish off China with all your divisions and take a few states in the peace talk. Change to "All Adults Serve" and build up.

The communist coup in Japan (Korean peninsula) should join Comintern when it fires. Join the war against Japan, call in all allies, and push Japan out of China. Set fighters to Kamikaze in East Sea and Yellow Sea to clear the path. Immediately launch a naval invasion of 20–30 divisions from Shanghai to Nagasaki. Move most army to Japanese mainland after a successful invasion.

Send another 20–30 divisions to invade Tokyo. Move 10 divisions north to Hokkaido and the rest to Osaka. Take your main army to Hiroshima to finish off Japan.
