Turkey begins in 1936 as a very powerful country compared to their neighbours. Due to the large military and medium-sized navy to their neighbors, following the Industrial branch of the default focus tree is imperative for a successful army. Construction technology is specifically important, so using your 3 research slots for the industrial technologies is a good idea. After building up your civilian factories, military factories should be constructed. Since Turkey normally does not join a faction, you have enough time to build up. Focus on Greece first since you two have unfinished business since 1922. You will get nice factories and resources from Greece, then focus on Iraq for oil, then Bulgaria and Yugoslavia if they aren't guaranteed and world tension is low, unless Germany or Italy attacked them first. You can join either the Axis, Allies or Comintern but the Axis faction is advised. You can get French and British colonies in Middle East and Saudi Arabia and Yemen you lost in World War One. Then you can finally reform the Ottoman Empire again, this will give you cores on Iraq, Libya, Tunisia, the Dodecanese, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. You're a vengeful, powerful country now so it's all up to you how you proceed from after this.

Alternatively, you could first invade into Iran and then Afghanistan.  This allows you to attack the Chinese United Front and ally with Japan.  Once this war is over, create a Chinese puppet and give it only the land bordering Japan at first, then everything else that Japan does not puppet.  If you have chosen fascism, then you should now have practically unlimited manpower from the puppet.  If Japan starts to justify a war on your puppet, focus on that front and defeat Japan on the Asian mainland, giving all the land to your puppet to make it extremely powerful.  Soon, your puppet will have built up hundreds of divisions that despite their low quality can be used to conquer the axis, assuming they are still fighting the Soviets.  If you don't border any axis nations, first declare war on a nation in the axis, then on a nation you border so they join the axis.  If Romania has joined the axis then you can ally with the Soviets to gain naval supremacy in the Black Sea and then launch a naval invasion, bypassing Bulgaria.  Once the axis is defeated it is up to you to decide how to split the land and who should be attacked next.

A famous dream amongst pan-Turkicists, establishing Turan in game will require attacking the Comintern, and along with it, either Axis, or Allies for the last part of Syrian Turcoman territory. Since the communist Turkey path guarantees ''insane'' levels of industrial buildup, it's often one of the best ways is to go "Communist Turkey", take all the heavyweight Etatist decisions (coup de grace with nationalizing everything) and rush Greece (and if possible, Romania and/or Bulgaria) for the extra land and industry to confront the USSR. Attack Greece as early as possible to draw Romania as a co-defender, eat Greece and invade Romania through the black sea. Eat all the neighboring neutrals like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan (Turan Requirement)until Barbarossa starts but use the German "Join the Axis" focus branch for the "Increase German Military Aid" and drop out of the Axis. If you can time your Communist sub branch industrial buildup along with German Axis aid, Clodius Agreement(be sure to increase chrome mines) and Chester Concession, you should have bulked up considerably, and armed enough to surprise and swarm the Soviet lines. Just keep pushing as north and past Crimea as early possible to block the Axis advance and make the Reich focus on defending the West. Keep a good eye on who holds the French Syria because it's the final part of the Turan quest, and antagonizing the Allies (definitely with USA on board) might be lethal.
 +

 +
When annexing the Soviets, do your best to block German annexations, take the Turan required provinces (and many more) and focus on Misak-ı-Milli focus. With all the Turanist advisors on board, integrating cores along the Caucausus might even be an afterthought since TWO have non-core manpower bonuses; it is now only a matter of time to take Syria, squashing (hopefully Vichy) France, and focus with all one's might to the Western Front, rush French Syria, declare Turan and put tens of millions of manpower(on volunteer only!) to whatever world conquest you have in mind. Keep in mind that the best Turanic advisors will draw the country into fascism, hence the "Nazbol" term from a communist beginning into a fascist Khaganate.
 +

 +
Adopting Mass Assault to swarm the USSR and reduce supply when marching through the low-supply Asia and China might be necessary, and since Turkey has enormous Chrome deposits, Heavy Tank Destroyers or Heavy Tanks can be a decent choice pushing beyond the Caucausus and into Ukraine.

Turkey is a minor country in Eurasia, mainly on the Anatolian peninsula in Western Asia with small lands in Balkan peninsula (Eastern Thrace) in Southeast Europe. Strategically located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, Turkey is bordered by Flag of Bulgaria Bulgaria and Flag of Greece Greece to the west, Flag of Italy Italy, the Island of Rhodes to the southwest, the Flag of Soviet Union Soviet Union to the northeast, Flag of France France to the southwest, Flag of Iraq Iraq to the south, Flag of Iran Iran to the east and the Flag of United Kingdom United Kingdom in the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea south of Turkey. Turkey has a coastline on the Black Sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Aegean-Bosphorus Sea to the west.

Historical background

The Ottoman Empire entered The Great War on the side of the Central Powers and was ultimately defeated. Following the Armistice of Mudros on 30 October 1918, the victorious Allied Powers sought to partition the Ottoman state through the 1920 Treaty of Sèvres.

The occupation of Istanbul and Izmir by the Allies in the aftermath of World War I prompted the establishment of the Turkish National Movement, and the Turkish War of Independence was waged with the aim of revoking the terms of the Treaty of Sèvres.

By 18 September 1922, the occupying armies were expelled, and the Ankara based Turkish Grand National Assembly(TGNA), which had declared itself the legitimate government of the country on 23 April 1920, started to formalize the legal transition from the old Ottoman into the new Republican political system. The republic was officially proclaimed on 29 October 1923 in Ankara, the country's new capital.

Turkey was neutral until several months before the end of the war, at which point it joined the Allies. Prior to the outbreak of war, Turkey signed a Mutual Aid Pact with Flag of France France and the Flag of United Kingdom United Kingdom in 1939. After the German invasion of France, however, Turkey remained neutral, relying on a clause excusing them if military action might bring conflict with the USSR, which, after the division of Flag of Poland Poland, Turkey feared. Then, in June of 1941, after neighboring Flag of Bulgaria Bulgaria joined the Axis and allowed the Flag of German Reich German Reich to move troops through to invade Flag of Yugoslavia Yugoslavia and Flag of Greece Greece, Turkey signed a non-aggression pact with Germany. Turkey was an important producer of chromite, which is a key ingredient in the manufacture of stainless steel and refractory brick and Germany had limited access to it. The key issue in Turkey's negotiations with both sides was the sale of chromite to Germany or to the Allies. The Allies had access to other sources and mainly bought the chromite in order to preclude its sale to Germany. Turkey halted its sales to Germany in April, 1944 and broke off relations in August. Turkey declared war on the Axis powers in February, 1945, after the Allies made its invitation to the inaugural meeting of the United Nations (along with the invitations of several other nations) conditional on full belligerency. No Turkish troops ever saw combat.

The Death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

- "The republic grieves".
War hero, revolutionary, president and Father of the Turks, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk has passed away.

He maintained his duty to the Turkish people and the republic he founded up until the very end. Thousands of mourners have paid their respects in Istanbul, before his body was transferred by caisson, ship and train to Ankara. There his state funeral was held with the entire parliament and dignitaries from all over the world in attendance.

With the father of the modern Turkish nation now gone, the republic must move on. The Grand National Assembly has elected former prime minister Ismet Inönü as his successor.'

Main article: Turkish national focus tree

Flag of Turkey Turkey gets a unique national focus tree as part of the Battle for the Bosporus expansion. Without the expansion, Turkey utilizes the Generic national focus tree.

The Turkish national focus tree can be divided into 2 branches The first can be divided into 3 sections with multiple sub-branches within:

The Montreux Convention Branch
This branch allows Turkey to manipulate its internal politics.

The Montreux Convention Branch can be divided into 5 sections which pivot Turkey's internal politics.

  • Privatize the Anadolu Agency Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to becomeDemocraticDemocratic, integrate the Kurdish states and increase infrastructure. If Adnan Menderes is the leader, it will force a civil war.
  • The Sanayiciler Sub-branch
The industry sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to remove its Debt Council and gain foreign investments with the help of the old Great Powers and the United States. Turkey must not be CommunistCommunist.
  • Treaty of Saadabad Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to be neutral internationally, have non-aggression pacts with middle eastern nations, take the state of Hatay and either following or deny The Legacy of Atatürk.
  • Peace at Home/ Reinvigorate Turkish Nationalism Sub-branch
This non-alignednon-aligned sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to deal with the Kurdish, Kemalist and Traditionalist factions. If the Kemalist Officers have too much power and Turkey has low stability, it will start a civil war.
  • Rehabilitate the Kadro Movement Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to become FascistFascist or CommunistCommunist. It also allows the sending of volunteers to the Spanish Civil War.
Pivot to the Past Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to reform the Flag of Ottoman Empire Ottoman Empire, rejoin the Central Powers, recreate Flag of Austria-Hungary Austria-Hungary or create the Saadabad Concordat with other Middle Eastern nations.
Reconfigure Turkish Foreign Policy Sub-branch
This sub-branch starts Flag of Turkey Turkey's foreign relations with either the Allies, the Axis or the Comintern and is able to get bonuses from the major nations.
  • Join the Allies Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to join the Allies, gain bonuses in the airforce or navy, get war goals against Flag of Romania Romania or Flag of Iran Iran and ask Flag of United Kingdom Britain for their Middle Eastern states.
  • The Mediterranean Entente/ Join the Axis Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to join the Axis or form the Covenant of the Mediterranean with Flag of Italy Italy. The Mediterranean side of the branch allows the Flag of Bulgaria Bulgarians and Flag of Portugal Portuguese to join and the choice between war or alliance with Flag of Greece Greece or Flag of Nationalist Spain Spain. It also would give war goals against the Flag of United Kingdom United Kingdom, Flag of France France or the Flag of Soviet Union Soviet Union. The Axis path allows an alliance with Flag of Germany Germany, military bonuses and meddling in Flag of Iraq Iraq.
  • The Anti-Bolshevik Mediterranean Bloc/ Readdress the Montreux Convention Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to join the Comintern which allows military bonuses and war with Flag of Iran Iran and Flag of Bulgaria Bulgaria. It also allows the formation of an alliance with Flag of Spain Spain and wargoals against the Flag of Soviet Union Soviet Union, Flag of France France and the Flag of United Kingdom United Kingdom.
  • Misak-ı Millî Sub-branch

Continue to Prioritize Balkan Integrity Sub-branch
This sub-branch allows Flag of Turkey Turkey to create an alliance with the other Balkan nations and would get bonuses that will benefit all faction members.

Politics

National spirits

Turkey starts with three national spirits with the Battle for the BosporusBattle for the Bosporus expansion enabled. Otherwise it starts with none.

Kemalist Officers icon
Kemalist Officers
The Turkish officer corps are some of the staunchest protectors of Kemalist values. Kemalism remains challenged as an ideology, but the officer corps stand ready to assist the goverment in all manners concerning the protection of the state.
Sectarian Woes icon
Sectarian Woes

  • Turkey's internal divisions are represented geographically through State Modifiers: the Kemalists can be found in the west and in the north, the religious Traditionalists can be found in the central hinterlands as well as in the south, while the Kurdish people can be found in the south-east of the nation.
  • Interactions with the different Factions can be accessed through the Decisions Tab, as well as through some Focus Effects and Event Options.
Turkey is beset by internal divisions that are drawn across ideological, religious, and ethnic lines. The Kemalists hope to turn Turkey into a secularized state, but there is a large percentage of the population who are fundamentally opposed to the very concept of secularism. In the east, the Kurdish people have caused a great deal of trouble for the Turkish government and seem determined to go the way of rebellion over assimilation. To mend the internal divisions of our country, we will either need to approach these issues with a gentle hand or an iron fist.
Disorganized Armed Forces icon

The Turkish Armed Forces is young much like the country of Turkey itself. Even though our armies emerged from the War of Liberation victorious against the Entente and the Ottomans, our nation paid the price for freedom in blood. There has been little to no enthusiasm for war after losing nearly a quarter of our population in the Great War, but with the spectre of war looming over the world once again it seems that we will have no choice but to either modernize our forces fast, or ensure that the war never reaches our borders.

Navy

Turkey has a better navy than Bulgaria, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Romania which can be very useful when navally invading. But it is also much smaller than its counterparts in Italy, France, and the UK which have navies stationed near Turkey and can be a big problem.

Strategies and guides

If you don't border any axis nations, first declare war on a nation in the axis, then on a nation you border, so they join the axis. If Romania has joined the axis then you can ally with the Soviets to gain naval supremacy in the Black Sea and then launch a naval invasion, bypassing Bulgaria. Once the axis is defeated it is up to you to decide how to split the land and who should be attacked next.

Nazbol Turan Guide

A famous dream amongst pan-Turkicists, establishing Turan in game will require attacking the Comintern, and along with it, either Axis, or Allies for the last part of Syrian Turcoman territory. Since the communist Turkey path guarantees insane levels of industrial buildup, it's often one of the best ways is to go "Communist Turkey", take all the heavyweight Etatist decisions (coup de grace with nationalizing everything) and rush Greece (and if possible, Romania and/or Bulgaria) for the extra land and industry to confront the USSR.

Balkan Entente War Guide

Follow the Balkan Entente line of the focus tree and be ally with Greece, Yugoslavia and Romania before Italy declares war on Greece. When joined to war, kick Italians out of Balkans, hold Bulgaria back of the war (Balkan Entente's existence is an enough threat to hold it back) or invade, support Allies to conquer Northern Africa to secure southern front. Support Yugoslavia to hold Axis in the northern front. Attack Italy with naval invasion through Adriatic Sea to Taranto and capitulate it. You can also attack to German Reich from Yugoslavia to Eastern Austria, which has better terrain to move your troops than the Western side.
